Delivering a robust, high-traffic capable platform with attitude
Working closely with the team at Lockwood Publishing, the creators of Avakin Life, we built an all-encompassing brief of the technical requirements for the site. Near the top of the list was the need to deliver a highly optimised, low footprint website due to the volume of traffic which visited the existing site.
A second key requirement was for the UI design to be very visual and image-led, directed from Avakin’s existing visual style and brand language. Implementing media-rich assets such as images and video often comes at the cost of performance, so it became our job to strike that fine balance.

Reflecting the diversity and dynamism of a global community
The two major facets of this project - stunning visual design and high performance - are normally at odds with each other. However, we managed to design and build a website which delivered on both fronts.
Our final concept was simple; to paint a picture of what being part of the Avakin Life community is like. We created a lifestyle site which showcases the real human emotion and interaction that happens between virtual avatars. The site introduced a new scalable design system and visual language, something that would allow the site to expand over time.

Capturing the culture of the Avakin world

Interactive JS Elements
Interaction is at the heart of Avakin Life and only seem natural to include elements into the site which are navigatable through subtle, intuitive gestures.

3D Model Pose and Rendering
Unlike most projects which are supported with on-location photography, we partnered with the team at Lockwood Publishing to utilise their custom in-house software to generate supporting imagery for the website.

Responsive Modules
Being a mobile game, mobile traffic to the site is a huge driver and it was important to ensure that every module on the site was design and built mobile first.
"Strafe take time to understand your needs and objectives which massively helps to deliver exactly what you are after. Strafe have great experience in the user journey and pretty much nail exactly what you are after. I found it refreshing working with an agency that instantly understands what you are trying to achieve and simply delivers with no nonsense."
